The First TangoChat: Tango Addicts Unite

Tango is my big new love. I first discovered  salon-style tango in Cali, Colombia, at the magical, must-be-visited club La Matraca. I then followed up with a two-month obsessive immersion in Buenos Aires with my Belgian friend Griet, whom I met in Cali and who is equally obsessed. Tango is going to inform my future projects, no matter what form they take, because tango has so much to teach. It’s not only a dance, it’s a way of connecting with ourselves and others. It’s also a confrontation with self and other. Since coming back to the Bay Area I have become friends with an equally obsessed tango writer whom I adore, and we are going to host a salon together to create community around tango. Get tango people together, and we can talk tango forever. I’m very excited. Here’s the invite.

First in a series of TangoChats hosted by writers Camille Cusumano and Sasha Cagen to create tango community and explore the deeper resonances of tango in our lives, art, relationships, and personal growth.

Sunday, June 19 · 4:00pm – 6:00pm
Caffe Trieste
1667 Market Street @ Gough St.
San Francisco, CA

FIRST UP: tango addiction. Let’s explore what draws us to tango.

Come prepared to talk about your tango addiction. Come one, call all to contribute to the dialogue to discuss these questions and to add your own:

What are the signs of tango addiction?
Why is tango uniquely addictive?
Can there ever be too much tango in your life?

Camille is author of the travel memoir TANGO: an Argentine Love Story and The Last Cannoli.
Sasha is author of Quirkylaone: A Manifesto for Uncompromising Romantics and To-Do List: From Buying Milk to Finding a Soul Mate, What Our Lists Reveal About Us.

Hi Barbara! That’s great. Are you in the San Francisco Bay Area?

  3. Tango is a Dance of Betrayal. We’re always looking for the next partner. When we understand and play with this given, the milonga is grand theater and we can have the time of our lives.

  4. admin says:

Ahhh Camille. I have semi-officially launched my new site here and leave it to you to leave the first mind-provoking comment! I can’t wait to fully get into it with you at our TangoChat and other events, other collaborations.

mmmm… heart to heart and the only dance where the rythm is not to the music but to each other…. this dance makes me cry and love and everything unconscious comes forth so evidently… the soft air in between hands thinking they are touching but being guided by pineal pulses and glandular groans… relationship can be had in the soft parts of the dance and then a tug in the other direction and it’s oh… infecting this little comment, too…
